Why I Started BarBox

I’m Sam, a mum of two girls and - admittedly - a bit of a fixer.

In 2015, after seeing the Paris Climate Agreement on the news, something clicked. For the first time, I understood just how urgent the climate crisis was - and how much everyday decisions mattered. I began making low-impact changes at home, from composting and cutting food waste to switching to green energy. Later, I co-founded a not-for-profit running eco-markets and workshops to help others do the same.

When I lost my part-time job during lockdown, I knew this was my opportunity to do more. I began designing a better way to store soap bars - and soon realised the real problem: people couldn’t even find the right bars to store. What started as a design project became a full-blown mission to make solid toiletries easy, accessible and appealing to everyone.

Backed by support from the University of Winchester, GreenTech South, and Innovate UK, BarBox was born - and we haven’t looked back.
